Preparing Your HVAC for Fall

Published on September 3rd, 2018

Residents of Chicago are either sad that summer is coming to a close or happy that colder weather is on the horizon (or maybe a little bit of both!). While you mentally prepare for this change in weather, your heating and cooling system in Carol Stream may need some preparation as well. Keep these tips in mind before the temperatures continue to drop!

Check for Leaks

Your refrigerant lines may have developed leaks over the summer that you don’t know about. This will result in the cooling system of your HVAC to overcompensate, leading to an underperformance. Overall, any leaks in your system will likely result in a shorter lifespan of your HVAC system. Our heating and cooling professionals in Carol Stream will be happy to check for any leaks.

Check Your Condenser Coils

First and foremost, make sure that that your electricity is turned off at the circuit breaker. Locate the evaporator coils and refer to the manufacturer instructions of your unit. You can clean evaporator coils with a wet rag using warm water and detergent. If you feel as though you cannot check and clean the coils yourself, feel free to call our HVAC professionals.

Make Sure Your Vents are Clear

In order for your heater to work properly this fall and winter, you’ll need to make sure that your vents are not obstructed. If you see anything obstructing the airflow, including grime or dirt, clean it off.

Your heating & cooling equipment should be tended to by a trained professional & certified HVAC technician to ensure it’s prepared for fall.
