With that there are a number of home improvement projects and home care tips that can help prepare your home for the warmer weather. It’s a great time to make sure that your home is both energy efficient and ready to take on the spring rains.

Clean Your Gutters

It’s important to keep your gutters clean to keep water draining away from your home. This is especially important in the areas of your home with trees overhead. It will reduce the amount of work on your sump pump and reduce the risk of water seeping through the foundation and into your home. It’s also a good idea to invest in extenders to keep water draining at least a few feet from your home. While you are at it, make sure that none of the gutters are loose or leaking. This can cause water to pool near the foundation.

Repair Cracks In Walls Or The Paint

If you notice cracks in the wall or even cracked and peeling paint, it not only looks bad, but exposes your home to the elements. It’s inexpensive and doesn’t take a lot of time to do some touch up painting. You can usually find what you need to repair concrete cracks at the hardware store.

Check Seals Around Windows And Doors

Cold winter weather can harden and crack the caulk around your windows and doors. Taking the time to re–caulk these areas can help you save money and make your home more energy efficient. It is advisable to check around exterior windows for signs of caulk that may need repair

Fill low areas near foundation with compacted soil – If you have areas near the foundation of your home where the yard dips, it may help to fill them with soil. This can prevent water from pooling near your home, and reduce the risk of flooding.
